On June 5, 1999, the Go For Broke Monument, a striking dedication honoring the more than 16,000 Japanese American men and women who bravely served overseas during WWII, was presented to the City of Los Angeles. Since then, every year on the first weekend in June, GFBNEC has held a community gathering in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, to commemorate and remember their legacy.
In February of 2024, the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new mixed-use, multi-story Go For Broke Plaza, featuring the First Street Residences, legacy businesses and the highly anticipated permanent home for Go For Broke National Education Center. Completion of the project is slated for late 2026. Due to the Plaza construction, and for the safety of our visitors, the Monument Anniversary Tribute will be held virtually.
Join us as we honor the remarkable story of the Nisei veterans’ courage, patriotism and sacrifice. It is a great American story that will be forever remembered within the Go For Broke Monument.
