Hanashi Oral History Collection

The Hanashi Oral History Collection (Hanashi means "to talk" in Japanese) contains over 1,200 audiovisual interviews with Japanese American World War II veterans and their contemporaries, documenting the Japanese American experience during this period.
These remarkable interviews chronicle the lives and experiences of Nisei (second-generation Japanese American) veterans, offering audiences a vivid glimpse into their lives before, during, and after the war. The interviews provide unparalleled detail and insight, serving as an invaluable resource for educators, authors, filmmakers, and historians alike.
The Collection gives a historically underrepresented group the opportunity to share their stories with both current audiences and future generations.
GFBNEC proudly hosts the Hanashi Oral History Collection through the Japanese American Military History Collective, a partnership with the Japanese American Service Committee, Military Intelligence Service Veterans Club of Hawai'i, and Nisei Veterans Memorial Center.
