An integral part of the medical team of both the 100th Infantry Battalion (Separate) and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team was the chaplain corps. The chaplains worked with the Medical Detachment to provide spiritual and moral support. They eased the fears and concerns of the Nisei who found themselves homesick, worried about their families back home or worn down by the emotional and physical challenges on the battlefield. They comforted the wounded and prayed for the dead, giving solace to those soldiers who remained behind. They held worship services and gave memorial services for fallen soldiers. They also aided with the evacuation of men, working their way between American and German lines to secure American soldiers who were wounded or killed.
