Hours and Admission


For the safety of our patrons and our staff, the GFBNEC Defining Courage exhibition will be temporarily closed due to the state's current "stay-at-home" order. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We will continue to provide updates, and we thank you for your patience and support.

Anticipated road closures starting April 13 - May 4 due to Metro Connector construction project:

  • Full intersection closure at 1st St/Alameda St intersection.
    • Right turns from northbound Alameda St to eastbound 1st St will be maintained.
    • Local Access Maintained.
    • Work hours, weather permitting, are 6 am to 6 pm. Additional work may be scheduled at a later date.
  • 1st St closure from Central Av to Alameda St from May 4, 2020 to August 31, 2020
  • Two (2) select weekend closures of the 1st St/Alameda intersection:
    • August 7, 2020
    • August 28, 2020

Teachers and Students Free for the rest of 2018!

Thanks to a generous sponsorship by the Aratani Foundation, teachers and students can enter the Defining Courage Exhibition FREE OF CHARGE for the remainder of 2018.


The following days will be FREE ADMISSION to the public: January 28th, February 15th, February 17th, March 15th, March 24th, March 31st, April 19th, April 28th, May 12th, May 17th, June 2nd, June 21st, July 6th, July 19th, August 11th-19th (Nisei Week), September 16th, September 22nd, October 18th, October 27th, November 10th, November 15th, December 15th, December 20th

Free Admission to Exhibition

  • Children 5 and under
  • All veterans and active-duty military
  • GFBNEC members

Combination Ticket to GFBNEC and the Japanese American National Museum
$15 for Adults
$8 for Seniors (62 and older), Students with ID, and Youth (age 6-17)

Every Thursday from 5-8 pm is free admission

Every third Thursday of the month is free admission ALL DAY

GFBNEC's Defining Courage Exhibition is one of more than 2,000 museums across America to offer FREE admission to military personnel and their families this summer in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense.
