Therefore K Company requested I Company Automatic Weapons for help. Frank was a BAR man, and he had to town to help. When Frank arrived, the area was secured. However, they encounter a German soldier with a potato hand masher (German hand grenade), and he later surrendered. Frank describes some different types of grenades used.

Partial Transcript: Frank was in the Regimental Reserves. He recalls moving up to the combat zone, and on the side of the road, he saw blanket-covered bodies. Frank could not help but wonder who they were and who they left behind. Those soldiers cannot share their stories. Frank owes it to those soldiers because he is still alive to tell his story. By sharing his wartime story, he's telling a part of their stories for the next generation. Some Nisei veterans cannot talk about their stories because it brings up nightmares. Many soldiers dealt with dramatic experiences.

Partial Transcript: Frank felt the Nisei soldiers made great soldiers because of their high IQ. Besides basic training, you need to have logic during wartime to react. All Nisei have the yamato-damashii instilled in them growing up. Frank said when you are on the battlefield, your mind goes numb. Otherwise, you could not do a lot of things.

Partial Transcript: Barney Hajiro from I Company received the Army Commendation Medal (ACM). Franks recalls Barney's accomplishments in the war. At the moment, you don't think you just react. He gave an example, during combat, he stood up while artillery fire was flying and digging a fox hole. Sometimes the reaction is a good choice, and sometimes not. When Frank was wounded overseas, his parents received a letter regarding his condition. After the war, Frank returned home and saw his father cry for the first time. He recalls in Potsdam, Germany, rumors were going around he lost a limb. Therefore, Frank took a photo in his swimsuit and sent it home to his parents.

The homeowner would not sell the house to Frank because the neighbors did not want a Japanese living in the neighborhood. He was a charter member of the VFW post in San Jose and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Frank believes there is a bond with the men in the 442nd. The 442nd consists of many Nisei all over the United States, and they did not know one another until they joined the Company. When you are in combat together, that forges a tight bond.

Partial Transcript: Frank recalls an onion patch was destroyed by German soldiers. Frank said he was lucky not to be injured by the artillery fire from the Germans. However, another soldier was killed under a tree from the tree burst. The German soldiers mainly attacked areas they thought the American soldiers would build their headquarters. Frank mentions a photo of the Russian Women's Air Corps directing traffic. Also, he talked about performances from Fritz Kreisler in Germany and Lily Pons and Andre Kostelanetz in Italy. Bob Hope and Jerry Colonna came to perform for the troops. However, the venue was too small, and Frank could not get in to watch.
