Partial Transcript: After Frank's group completed the training, they joined the earlier group to form a company. Frank recalls training and being cautious of snakes. At Camp Shelby, there was another division, the 69th division, and the Hawaiian soldiers were competitive. Serving in the Army, Frank wanted to show the Government he was a good American. He is good as anyone else. Frank felt that was the same sentiment with the other Japanese Americans serving in the army.

Partial Transcript: At Camp Shelby, the summer was hot, and the winter was cold. The winter was chiller, especially for the Hawaiian soldiers. Frank recalls the Hawaiian boys would sit by the fire all night. In training, Frank learned about the 100th and their accomplishments. The 100th trained at Camp Shelby before going overseas fall of 1943. When Frank prepared to go overseas, he departed from Newport News, VA. The voyage was scary because there were German submarines. The trip took a month, avoiding the German submarines. Frank arrived in Sicily, Italy, first.

Partial Transcript: On D-Day, Frank was in Naples, Italy. Later he travels to Rome to meet with the 100th Battalion. The 2nd Battalion was in Africa, but they caught up with Frank's company in Rome. Frank did not see any of the 100th guys because he was in the last group. Frank was in the 3rd Platoon, 3rd Squad. The 3rd Platoon was the Reserved Platoon, and the 3rd Squad was the Reserved for the Platoon. The guys in the front were in battle, and the town was taken. However, the hillside was not, and the 442nd could not advance. The 100th came behind the hill and helped the 442nd. That was the first time Frank saw many casualties. After Frank's discharge from the hospital, he revisits Rome.

Frank also recollects the first time shooting his weapon at a German soldier and shares his thoughts. The only casualty in Frank's squad was their bazooka man. K Company was separated because they encountered German soldiers.

Partial Transcript: Franks describes the communication between soldiers in war. Each Company and platoon had a radio to relay messages and information. The order of command came from the Battalion, and the Battalion received orders from the Regiment. Before going to the front lines, soldiers were given information. However, in battle, nothing was communicated. Frank recalls crossing the Arno River and experiencing artillery fire after crossing. Frank's friend who was a commercial artist was hit in the leg.

Partial Transcript: After Hill 140, there was a medic from Seattle, WA, in Frank's Company who experienced shell shock. Before experiencing shell shock he was there for anyone who was wounded. He did his job even though he was scared. Frank feels he was a true hero. The medics did a terrific job from what Frank heard. When Frank was injured, there was no medics. The litter-bearer came to take him to Company Headquarters.

Partial Transcript: Hill 140 was one of the German soldiers' key defenses before the Arno River. Frank was in the 3rd Platoon, 3rd Squad, the Platoon Reserve hauling ammunition during the battle on Hill 140. There were many casualties from Hill 140. The day before Hill 140 two men in Frank's Platoon were killed in action (KIA). After Hill 140, there were no more battles until Luciana. Luciana was the last stronghold in Italy.
