Partial Transcript: When Shigeru is at McCormick General Hospital in Pasadena, CA, he meets another wounded Lieutenant who encourages him to go to school in Kentucky. In April of 1947, the wounded Lieutenant is discharged from the hospital and attends Centre College in Danville, KY. He tells Shigeru to go to college with him. On August 12, 1947, Shigeru is discharged from the hospital. On August 25, 1947, he receives an acceptance letter to Centre College.

Shigeru is disappointed that he will be at Centre College alone. However, Shigeru meets a soldier in the 11th Airborne at Centre, and they become roomies. Shigeru recalls an incident with Phi Kappa Tau. His roommate is approached by a fraternity, Sigma Chi, but he does not join. Shigeru and his roommate decided to establish an independent fraternity themselves.
