World War II

During World War II, approximately 33,000 Japanese Americans served in the US Armed Forces. They fought in Europe, in the Pacific, and in Asia. While they fought overseas, many of their families were imprisoned in government incarceration camps in America. Some also chose not to serve, deciding instead to protest the unjust treatment. Meanwhile, Japanese American women also served in the US military.
