US Senator Boxer Says Congressional Gold Medal Past Due for 100th, 442nd, MIS

Addressing veterans of the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team and Military Intelligence Service (MIS) in a news conference at the Go For Broke Monument in Los Angeles, United States Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) said, "it is long past time that you are honored with another award, a Congressional Gold Medal." US Representative Adam Schiff (D-Pasadena) said, "We want every child in every school in America to know and understand the enormous sacrifice, the bravery, the courage, the commitment that you displayed." Speaking on behalf of the National Veterans Network, Rosalyn Tonai, Executive Director of the National Japanese American Historical Society headquartered in San Francisco, thanked the two officials for their leadership toward passage of legislation awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to the 100th, 442nd and MIS. Senator Boxer's staff planned the Aug. 21 news conference and invited guests including California State Assemblymen Ted Lieu (D-El Segundo) and Warren Furutani (D-Long Beach). In addition to media, approximately 75 veterans and guests attended. The Congressional Gold Medal legislation is expected to be approved in final form by the US House of Representatives in September and presented to President Barack Obama for his signature. On behalf of Go For Broke National Education Center, thank you to the veterans of the 100th, 442nd and MIS, wives, widows, veterans of other wars, family members and friends who made time on this hot Saturday morning to attend Senator Boxer's news conference.
