Exhibit Evaluator Contract Opportunity
Go For Broke National Education Center – Los Angeles, California

Go For Broke National Education Center (GFBNEC) is an educational nonprofit, with the mission to educate and inspire character and equality in all Americans through teaching about the virtue and valor of our World War II American veterans of Japanese ancestry. In May of 2016, GFBNEC opened a new educational exhibition about the Japanese American soldier legacy within the broader context of the Japanese American experience of World War II. The 3,800 square foot permanent exhibition examines this chapter of history from a contemporary perspective that incorporates issues facing our communities and nation today. The exhibition is located in the historic Nishi Hongwanji Building in the Little Tokyo Historic District of Los Angeles. Through a National Park Service Japanese Area Confinement Site Grant, GFBNEC is creating integrating eight viewing stations into the exhibit. Each station will include themed oral history video content from our extensive oral history collection.

Scope of Work
The Exhibit Evaluator will evaluate and report on GFBNCE’s Defining Courage Exhibition to identify gaps in content that can be filled by incorporating viewing stations and help inform decisions about the exhibit in the future.

This contract position will:

  • Visit GFBNEC's Defining Courage Exhibition to become familiar with the exhibit.
  • Work with visitors (individuals, small groups, etc.) to evaluate how/if the exhibit’s content meets visitor needs.
  • Produce a report on this formative evaluation including information about what works in the exhibition and where there are content gaps. In addition to informing GFBNEC’s viewing station development, this report will guide the organization on exhibit-related decisions moving forward.
  • Return to GFBNEC’s Defining Courage Exhibition after the viewing stations and work with visitors to evaluate the success of the viewing stations.
  • Produce a report on this summative evaluation.
    • Please note: The specifics of the return visit/summative evaluation will be negotiated at a later date.

This contractor will work onsite (when in the exhibit) and remotely. Applicant must be available to come to the office for orientation.

Applicant should have experience or coursework related to evaluating exhibits. Knowledge of Japanese American and/or World War II history are pluses, but are not required.
