GFBNEC Teacher Training in Houston
Houston, Texas, here we come!
Thanks to a generous grant from Union Bank, we will be hosting "A Tradition of Honor" Teacher Workshop in Houston on August 1 and 2. The two-day workshop will be held at the Harris County Department of Education Building at 6300 Irvington in Houston.
A Tradition of Honor is a comprehensive workshop that augments high school US history coursework surrounding World War II. The content is mapped to a specific state's content standards.
Our colleagues in the Houston Japanese American community are working on arrangements to (hopefully) have some Nisei veterans attend a portion of the workshop, which is always the highlight of these training sessions.
We are very pleased to have Lloyd Kajikawa leading the workshop. Lloyd has more than 35 years of experience as an educator and has worked in school districts as a teacher, administrator, staff developer and facilitator. As the Education Specialist for the Japanese American National Museum, Lloyd provided nationwide professional development to over 500 teachers about the Japanese American experience, assisting them in creating ways to infuse this history into the broader social studies and history curricula.
Teachers may register for the workshop at http://wms.hcde-texas.org/.
