Los Angeles Regional Congressional Gold Medal
What a day! A deep marine layer of clouds provided the perfect sunshade for the almost 1,800 veterans, their families, dignitaries, well wishers, and volunteers who gathered at the Go For Broke Monument on Saturday, June 9th, for the Los Angeles Regional Congressional Gold Medal Celebration.
David Ono, KABC 7 news anchor, served as Master of Ceremonies. Bronze Star Medals were presented to 29 veterans and next of kin, and Congressional Gold Medal (CGM) replicas were presented to 160 veterans and 139 widows and next-of-kin of Nisei soldiers who were killed in action.

GFBNEC Teacher Training in Houston
Houston, Texas, here we come!
Thanks to a generous grant from Union Bank, we will be hosting "A Tradition of Honor" Teacher Workshop in Houston on August 1 and 2. The two-day workshop will be held at the Harris County Department of Education Building at 6300 Irvington in Houston.
A Tradition of Honor is a comprehensive workshop that augments high school US history coursework surrounding World War II. The content is mapped to a specific state's content standards.

Stars and Stripes, Day and Night!
"We can finally fly the flag again at night," was echoed repeatedly by the veterans who were at the Go For Broke Monument as installation of new well lights surrounding the Monument was completed just prior to the Los Angeles Regional Congressional Gold Medal Celebration.
"When I came on board at GFBNEC, one of the first things I noticed was that the Go For Broke Monument was starting to show its age," said GFBNEC President Don Nose.
