SPECIAL NISEI WEEK SCREENING OF NEW DOCUMENTARY FROM FILMMAKERS OF A "TRADITION OF HONOR"

From the producers who brought you "A Tradition of Honor," Craig Yahata and Robert Horsting, present a special benefit sneak preview screening of their upcoming documentary "Citizen Tanouye," the story of Los Angeles area born Medal of Honor recipient Tech Sgt. Ted Tanouye of the highly decorated 442nd Regimental Combat Team. The screening will take place during the last day of the Nisei Week Japanese Festival, Sunday, August 21 at 11 a.m. at the George & Sakaye Aratani Japan America Theatre. General admission is a suggested donation of $15, students with ID $7.50, and all WWII Nisei veterans are free.

Picking up where "A Tradition of Honor" left off, "Citizen Tanouye" takes a kinetic "shoot-from-the-hip-style" turn as the filmmakers follow the three-day expedition of eight ethnically diverse students as they search for the clues that reveal the lost story of local World War II hero Ted Tanouye. Through research, they follow Ted’s journey from Torrance, California to the battlefield of Hill 140 in Italy. These 11th grade students get an eye opening experience as they come across the treatment of Japanese American citizens and learn of the heroics of the Nisei soldiers during the trying times of war. Their initial candid reactions, caught on film, show how their generation can connect to a part of history often overlooked.

"This film truly bridges the gap between my generation and the kids of today," said Milt Carlson, Torrance High School class of 1938. Veterans are strongly encouraged to bring their grandchildren to this special screening. The filmmakers will be in attendance for questions following the film. Presented in association with the Ted Tanouye Memorial Foundation, proceeds will be used for the completion of "Citizen Tanouye."
