EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Go For Broke National Education Center – Torrance, California

Position:
Special Events Manager

Reports to:
Development Director

Major Duties:

  • Attends and manages all major events for the Go For Broke National Education Center
  • Develop, plan, and implement major fundraising events from inception to P & L financial report after event
  • Provides leadership, support and serves as staff liaison between event committees and volunteers, including all correspondence and meeting details (as needed)
  • Coordinate sponsorship packages and solicit sponsors for events to underwrite costs
  • Procure in-kind donations for events to reduce fundraising costs
  • Oversee all logistics of the events (pre and post) to ensure efficiency, effectiveness and maintain a standard of quality that the National Education Center is known to provide
  • Work with program staff and volunteers to ensure that every event contains program content
  • Maintain and coordinate master calendar of events
  • Works closely with PR staff to publicize events
  • Provides support to Hawaii regional office as needed

Time Commitment:
Full-time

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited university
  • 5+ years experience in the area of event planning and coordination
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work under deadline
  • Must be able to work some evening or weekends (as needed)
  • Computer program experience in Excel, Word
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge and/or graphics programs helpful but not mandatory

The Go For Broke National Education Center teaches and preserves the American story and legacy of American veterans of Japanese ancestry whose heroism and sacrifices during World War II triumphed over racism and intolerance. Through its education programs, current and future generations learn what it means to be an American and about the importance of civil liberties and racial tolerance.

Programs and services include: Hanashi Oral History Program, An American Story Teacher Training Program, Historical Archive on its website, www.GoForBroke.org, Go For Broke Monument, Resource Center, Publications, Documentaries, Collections Archive and Volunteer Program.
