Since 1999 the Go For Broke Educational Foundation has been focused on its educational programming in California, focusing on the heroism and history of the AJA soldiers of World War II, as well as the forced evacuation and incarceration of AJAs and civil liberties issues raised by those events. Currently the Educational Foundation’s educational initiatives include An American Story Teacher Training Program, Hanashi Oral History Program, www.GoForBroke.org educational Web site, and Resource Center.

The Educational Foundation has expanded its educational programming to Hawaii. In December 2003, the Educational Foundation, working with Hawaii’s Department of Education, conducted teacher training workshops on Oahu, Maui, Hawaii, and Kauai. Using its “A Tradition of Honor” teachers guide, the Educational Foundation trained 65 high school teachers on the importance and significance of the AJA veterans of World War II’s contributions. In 2004, the Educational Foundation is continuing its educational initiative in Hawaii and will be screening “A Tradition of Honor,” an 82-minute documentary it produced on the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd RCT and Military Intelligence Service at the Universal Values for a Democratic Society, Nisei Veterans Endowed Forum Series sponsored by the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Colleges of Arts and Sciences. The screening is free and is being held at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii on March 4 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Lunch and a panel discussion with veterans from each unit and the producers will follow. For more information, please contact Tamara Goldbogen at 808-956-5790.

In 1989 AJA World War II veterans established the 100th/442nd/MIS WWII Memorial Foundation, which today operates as the Go For Broke Educational Foundation to build the Go For Broke Monument. The Go For Broke Monument is an eternal tribute to the heroics of the segregated AJA units: 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, MIS (Military Intelligence Service) and the many other men and women who served overseas during World War II. The Monument is located in the Little Tokyo district of downtown Los Angeles at Temple and Alameda Streets. For more information, go to www.GoForBroke.org.
