GO FOR BROKE EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION HOSTS
"GO FOR BROKE POKER TOURNAMENT"
TORRANCE, Calif. (January 21, 2005) - The Go
For Broke Educational Foundation is excited to announce its first
ever Go For Broke Poker Tournament to be held Sunday, April 17,
2005 at the Holiday Inn Torrance from 12 - 6 p.m. This afternoon
affair will feature professional dealers and equipment, great
prizes for the top winners, an appetizer buffet, giveaways for
all participants, and much more. The Poker Tournament - No Limit
Texas Hold ‘Em that has fast become today’s most popular
card came - is $75 per player, $65 per veteran. Registration deadline
is April 1.
Organized by volunteers, the Go For Broke Poker Tournament is
being held to raise funds to support the Go For Broke Educational
Foundation’s education initiatives on the Japanese American
veterans who served America during World War II.
The men who served in the 100 Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental
Combat Team and Military Intelligence Service represent a model
American story. More than 16,000 brave soldiers volunteered to
fight in a segregated unit while their families, citizens of this
country, were forced to live in U.S. concentration camps. Their
contributions led them to become the most decorated unit in U.S.
military history for its size and length of service, and serves
as a reminder that no American should be deprived of their rights
to citizenship.
Prize donations and sponsorships are welcome. The Go For Broke
Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The Go For Broke Educational Foundation institutes educational
programs focused on the heroism and history of the Japanese American
soldiers of World War II, as well as the forced evacuation and
incarceration of Japanese Americans and civil liberties issues
raised by those events. Currently the Educational Foundation’s
programs include An American Story Teacher Training Program, Hanashi
Oral History Program, www.GoForBroke.org
educational Web site, and Resource Center.
In 1989 Japanese American World War II veterans established the
100th/442nd/MIS WWII Memorial Foundation to build the Go For Broke
Monument, which today is an eternal tribute to the heroics of
the segregated Japanese American units: 100th Infantry Battalion,
442nd Regimental Combat Team, MIS (Military Intelligence Service)
and the many other men and women who served overseas during World
War II. The Monument is located in the Little Tokyo district of
downtown Los Angeles at Temple and Alameda Streets.
