Position:
Hanashi Production Intern

Purpose:
To gain a hands-on experience in coordinating video documentary production (pre-production, production & post-production/distribution) while assisting the Hanashi Oral History Program in collecting the life histories of Japanese American World War II veterans.

Major Duties:

  • Assist in pre-production phase
    (Maintain and organize potential interviewee lists, research history of military units that interviewees served in, assist in preparing interview scheduling/paperwork/correspondence, and coordinating with volunteer crews)
  • Assist in production phase
    (gain hands-on experience with HDV broadcast quality video production while assisting on at least two interview crews)
  • Assist in post-production/distribution
    (Filing of interview paperwork/releases, sending out correspondence & dubbing sub masters & preview copies and/or supervising volunteers performing dubbing while maintaining quality control, preparing masters for archiving and sending out correspondence & dubs to interviewees)

Time Commitment:
Minimum 2 days a week (full days preferred)

Qualifications:

  • Interest in learning documentary video production within the context of a nonprofit organization’s oral history program.
  • Excellent computer skills, proficiency with Microsoft Excel & Word
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail

Compensation:
Stipend + Travel Expenses
